Teesdale School and Sixth Form in Barnard Castle was sponsored by the North East Learning Trust in September 2016 where it proceeded to undergo a series of rapid improvements and moved from 'requiring improvement' to 'outstanding' in three years. In 2025, the school was judged by Ofsted to be maintaining its outstanding levels of education.
