An Ofsted hat-trick

We're celebrating our third consecutive ‘outstanding’ report, from school inspectors Ofsted - the highest grade possible - and an exceptional achievement that has been reached by just a fraction of schools across the UK.

This result follows previous outstanding results in 2013 and 2010 which also gave the top grade in all inspection areas: quality of education; behaviour and attitudes; personal development and leadership and management.

The report confirms that our school’s reputation within the community for delivering exceptional education to its students is well founded, stating that students “flourish in this happy, safe and successful school”.

Our strong curriculum was praised throughout the report, with inspectors reporting that “the quality of education at the school has been impressive over time” and that “pupils’ outcomes across the curriculum are consistently higher than the national and regional averages”.

Inspectors also noted that “the high standards throughout school help pupils of all backgrounds and abilities make rapid progress”.

Speaking of her delight at her school’s latest achievement, Alex Hook, Head of School, commented:

“The latest Ofsted report fills me with immense pride. We work together with our students, their families and the wider community to provide a fantastic education for our children and I am happy to see this recognised by Ofsted once again.

“Our students are a credit to the school and I would like to extend my thanks to our families who continuously support us. As a team of staff, we are deeply committed to providing the best possible start in life for our young people.”

Lesley Powell CBE, Chief Executive Officer of the North East Learning Trust which runs schools across the region and was founded by The Academy at Shotton Hall, added:

“The report is absolutely fantastic and receiving an outstanding grade for a third time is an incredible achievement for the school. The result is a testament to the ongoing hard work of brilliant staff, hardworking students and constant collaboration with families and the wider community.”

Amanda Moon, Chair of Governors at the school, said:

“I would like to congratulate everyone at The Academy at Shotton Hall for another Outstanding grade from Ofsted. It is fantastic news for the school. I have been witness to the hard work that goes into maintaining such high standards and the result is very well deserved.”

The report also noted the strong extra-curricular provision in place, saying “the school provides extensive opportunities to educate pupils beyond the academic curriculum” and commended our school for ‘expertly’ embedding meaningful career links into all areas of the curriculum. Inspectors said that “this supportive environment helps to shape pupils to become confident, articulate and kind.”
